Uaian is a professional story teller and artist of the Arawak Taino people from the Island of Borike (Puerto Rico). He is fluent in Spanish, Arawak and English and is a keeper of traditional stories and songs for his people. Through his travels from coast to coast, he has gathered stories from many other American Indian cultures, including the Eastern Woodlands.
A former elementary school art teacher, he now creates beadwork, paintings, stone carvings and ceramics inspired by his and other Indian Nations. He has worked with a broad spectrum of populations from the physically challenged to mainstream children. Uaian's artwork has been featured in several gallery shows.
Uaian has been a presenter for Journeys into American Indian Territories, Journeys Family Program, Hope of Heart Foundation and many more, and is currently an active educator for Your Connection To Nature and The Art & Nature Group.
He is a Board Member of the Taino Award Ceremony that's held yearly for the Arawak Taino Nation, and a founding Board Member of The Art & Nature Group based here on Long Island.
Uaian is a practicing Minister of the Four Directions Indian Church, and the Kaney Indian Spiritual Circle. He also leads traditional ceremonies for his people yearly and on special occasions.
His art and stories are direct inspiration of his rich cultural heritage.
